Sept. 6 First day of ENG40
Used wikispace pages (look to the right of this page- there's our table of contents), as our introduction:
1. Read "Home"- purpose of wiki
2. Read "Welcome"- includes class expectations
and "Course outline"
3. Create a wiki account and join our wiki, in order to keep up with work when they are away.
Create a gmail account in order to hand work in on line.

5. Read Writing Variables- wiki page and prezi explain what these are- VERY IMPORTANT
6. Look at several examples of "writing" (posters, labels, resume, etc.), and identify the writing variables.
7. Read Document Use- see wiki page
8. Try the Measure Up Website (link on Document Use page)- for future reference
9. Consider the document of "Advertisements"
10. Identify writing variables of several advertisements.
11. Identify what makes advertisements appealing and effective

12. Find 6 specific advertisements in the school and analyze for the 5 variables and the effectiveness of the ad. Write your answers on the handout. Hand in to be marked.

3. Lit Power assignment- If you weren't in class, be sure to go pick up this handout:

4. Demonstrations speech- look at the Oral Communication wiki page on the right of this page, to get the complete instructions. Look at some youtube examples. think of something very simple that can be demonstrated in the class. Write out the steps numbered 1, 2, 3. Turn the steps into a flowchart ("document of the day"). We will work on how to make it into a prezi next week. Check out all the links provided for the assignment, including the rubric for how you will be marked.
